Samsung Universe, Khan Academy Tablet App

Samsung Universe

Universe is a software application for social networking between all Samsung devices enabling users connect with each other and share/view each others’ content as well as public content available online. As a part of a large team, I designed human-centered interfaces for tablet devices providing simple, attractive, and seamless experiences among all devices and content types.

Universe combined various spheres of activity similar to today’s most recognized social applications letting consumers stay up to date with all types of content created by people and organizations. To protect client confidentiality, I will only be sharing blurred wireframes below.

Khan Academy Tablet App

Khan Academy, a non-profit educational organization founded in 2006 by Salman Khan, aims to provide accessible education for everyone on nearly any topic.

Our team was brought on to design the user interaction for the tablet app. My role focused specifically on crafting the user experience for discovering, exploring, and viewing lessons on the platform.

Research

To inform my approach, I analyzed popular video discovery and playback apps alongside the interaction patterns of Khan Academy’s existing web platform.

Objectives

• Clean, visually engaging design: Prioritize content and encourage exploration.

• Simple, intuitive navigation: Ensure features are easy to access and understand.

• Learner-centric experience: Place students and their educational journey at the core of the design.

Approach

• Emphasized building a robust, user-friendly foundation with minimal reliance on flashy innovations.

• Maintained close collaboration with engineering to ensure technical feasibility and alignment throughout the process.

Deliverables

• App Structure & Navigation Map: A clear layout for how users interact with the app.

• Wireframe Specifications: Detailed designs for both interaction and visual elements.
